Amp's type: COLTON 200W bass head
Artist: Kovács Barna
Band(s): Demjén, Ruzsa Magdi
Date: 25.02.2013.

Where tested (practicing room, concert, studio, shop):
SP practicing room

Instrument that used for test:
MusicMan Sting Ray5, piezo frets and fretless basses

Cabinet that used for test:
SP-410B (4x10” Jensen 600W)

External appearance (Design):
Faultless, it looks like it is not an overdesigned stuff, where lot of money has been spent for the appearance, but from the quality point of view it is absolutely competitive.

Sound (clean and distorted channels, compressor, EQ, tone, etc.):
The real tube sound is coming immediately, for me sounds like an Ampeg SVT II. Excellent starting sound, and the amp is very quick, faithfully reproduces the sound of the instrument... Very good reaction for both the active and the passive mode too. The tone control and the graphic EQ are very intensive, this assures many settings possibility. The 'Color' is very clever innovation. It is something like the 'Shape', I met with this already - if I am not wrong. It was the best when I played with high gain, and the hairy, biting sound came out to produce a very rock-sounding. The amp is very loud and dynamic. You can feel the 200W of power. The deep tones were a little bit too much for me below 100Hz, but maybe it was caused by the acoustics of the small sized practicing room. The compressor is too sensitive - by me. I should modify on it, but maybe a limiter can solve this small thing.

Features (Effect-loop, foot switch, safety solutions, etc.):
Fuses on each tubes, the speaker control function and the safety mains inlet connector are very practical. At this time I did not test the effect-loop. This amp overtakes the most superior bass amps in point of view of services.

What kind of other amps should be build (combo, different power range, etc.):
The combo is a good idea, but only if it not causes difficulty. Maybe the smaller power could decrease the weight too. Having regard to the tubes, a 100W amp will not whispering, but it is easier to move with separated cabinet, moreover it 's depends from me that which kind of cabinets I wants to use. To increase the power is not neccessary, it is incredible loud, especially since many amplifiers can be connected into series, you can go higher...

Suggestions (further features, appearance, etc.):
A Big Comparison Test would be very interesting, I would be curious about its performance among over all of the amplifiers can be found.
